How To Use Alias In SQL

In this article, we will learn how to use aliases with SQL queries.

To make column names more readable, Aliases are used.

SQL aliases are used to give a temporary name to a table, or a column in a table. An alias only exists for the duration of the query.

Alias Column

Syntax

SELECT column1 AS alias1, column2 AS alias2, ...columnN AS aliasN
FROM TABLE_NAME;

Example

The subsequent statement would create an alias name for the Title column.

SELECT Title AS T
FROM Article;

Alias Table

Syntax

SELECT column_name(s)
FROM TABLE_NAME AS alias_name;

Example

The subsequent statement would creates two aliases name, one for the Article table and one for the Technology table.

SELECT A.*, T.Name
FROM Article AS A, Technology AS T
WHERE A.TechID = T.ID;
