How To Write Select Query In SQL

Introduction

In this article, we will learn how to write a SQL select query.

To select data from a database in the SQL SELECT statement is used. The data returned is stored in the form of a result table, called the result-set.

We can use SELECT in two ways either select all the fields available in the table or can specify field names of the table from which you want to select data.

1. To select data from all the available fields of the table.

Syntax

SELECT * FROM TABLE_NAME;

Example

The subsequent statement would return data of all available fields in the Article table.

SELECT * FROM Article;

2. To select data from specific fields of the table.

Syntax

SELECT column1, column2, ...columnN
FROM TABLE_NAME;

Example

The subsequent statement would return data of the Title field in the Article table.

SELECT Title FROM Article;
